Beschreibung
Mark is a successful, high-ranking manager at an international company in Poland and considers himself bisexual. His sexual encounters with men are and have to remain a secret for all. Mark grew up in a communist country that is now a fundamentalist religious state, with hundreds of communities calling themselves "Gay free zones." Living a secret double life within this context makes Mark vulnerable and careful.
Patrik is a retired professor in health sciences who has been married to a man for over fifty years. He lives in the countryside outside Copenhagen, Denmark. In a country with no homophobia, he is not in the closet, as all family, friends and colleagues know him and his husband.
Mark and Patrik meet in a café in Warsaw. They spend the night together but fall head over heels in love. Their relationship is impossible; their minds know it, but their hearts ignore the warnings. Gradually, their context changes significantly, and they can choose another path. They face obstacles when considering if they want a life together.
Despite the circumstances, they manage to build a solid and loving relationship. When their context changes significantly, new possibilities they had never dreamed of make a life together a realistic possibility.
As mature, many chains must be broken between family, friends, and work regarding their behaviours and attitudes. Their biggest challenge is determining where to establish a home and live in security. Poland, Denmark or another country? Poland is not an option, as the Polish president has called the LBGQT movement more dangerous than Communism and the Nazis together.
One by one, chains to the past are broken. Some old bonds are strengthened, and new bonds are made. Changing behaviour and honesty make it possible to maintain friendships or renew and strengthen others. They realise that love has many faces and obstacles to overcome. Mark and Patrik decide to face the challenges and support each other. When Mark survives an attempted murder at his office, they realise how fortunate they are and that love is a precious gift.
The context has changed, and they succeed in adjusting to the new possibilities and laying out a strategy for their future lives.
This book is for readers of love stories based on real-life events. It gives the reader a glimpse into the past and present, showing how cultures and society have been and still are barriers to same-sex love. It also highlights the courage and resilience of individuals like Mark and Patrik, who bravely navigate these societal barriers to pursue their passion.
Mark and Patrik are real, mature men; their love, events, contexts, and countries are real. Their love is authentic, passionate, and powerful, transcending societal norms and barriers. However, the author's contributions include names, occupations, times, and places.
