He espouses the virtues of sobriety and the vicissitudes of severe alcoholism giving witness to the immoral actions that one has the potential to undertake while inebriated. Subsequently he becomes such and pilfers from the household of his lodgers. His punishment is just in that the guilt he suffers is befitting.
