Based on scientific method, Korzybski presents readers with the idea of non-aristotelian perspectives and systems as a parallel to non-newtonian physics and non-euclidean geometry as the basis of new ways of thinking in general to match the new understandings of our world and universe that have emerged over the past two centuries. Intended to be a system that can be used by everyone, general semantics is introduced here as a method of evaluating our surroundings, the messsages we receive from others, and our own thinking. Korzybski's intention was to provide a teachable system that would help us to make progress in human relations, to solve the social, political, and economic ills that plague humanity, and to help us in everyday life.
