"A potent and enlightening book that everyone needs to read and will keep readers on the edge of their seats"

Gabriella Harrison of Pacific Book Review

In September 2038, the world is bracing for two of the strongest storms in recorded history. A hurricane is heading towards the US while a typhoon is edging into the sub-continent of Asia. For twenty-three days the earth is battered by these two powerful storms. After an already extremely damaging year of natural disasters including a tsunami from the Philippines earthquake, forest fires that ravaged the heat-baked northern hemisphere, mudslides that caused havoc in Columbia, and the ice storms hitting Australia; the world was preparing for more extreme events. A team of disaster specialists gathered from military organizations from the world's nation-states frantically worked to organize evacuations, medical supplies, food, and water, and plan rescue operations as needed in the aftermath of the storms. Called the Global Disaster Squad, they were soon taxed to their limit.

I started this book in 1993 soon after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Cold War, and apartheid in South Africa. The world seemed to be heading in a new direction of global cooperation and peace, so I imagined a world with lessening military armies and the need for unification of purpose to deal with the coming climate crises. Much of what I predicted has come true, but unfortunately, the world is not as peaceful and cooperative as I had hoped for now.
