After losing his mother, Felix travels to Venice to research the poet Maeve Mauncy, who'd lived there years before with her faithless over. Their stormy relationship begins to obsess him, and as he wanders around the canals and bridges some shocking truths are revealed against the backdrop of a secret Venice, where daily life survives in quiet streets and meandering backwaters. Nothing is quite as it seems in this elusive, watery city. And although Felix wants to move forwards with his life, he somehow just can't free himself from the past...
