Beschreibung

The field of bioimaging is rapidly changing due to significant advances in electronics, information technology and more recently nanotechnology and shows a great promise for many breakthroughs in a wide range of medical applications. Since the most disease processes occur at the molecular and cellular levels on nanometers length scale, the use of molecular and cellular imaging agents made from inorganic nano particles to target the desired location for therapeutic and diagnostic applications is of great interest. This final volume of multi-volume series on NANOTECHNOLOGY has been written for a wide audience of varying fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Engineering. The volume is quite readable and thorough in its presentation of the subject so as to provide the readers a broad coverage and insight into the area. To meet the above objectives this volume covers following topics: Fundamentals of bioimaging; Major contrast agents employed in bioimaging applications; Single molecule imaging by atomic force microscope; Quantum dots (QDs) in optical imaging, diagnostics and drug screening ; Applications of radio labeled nano particles for diagnostic applications; Basic principles of nano phosphors with their preparation and nano imaging applications; Synthesis of magnetic nano particles and nanostructures, their potential applications and safety and toxicity issues; Raman spectroscopy as a the agnostic tool in nano medicines; Near infrared (NIR) dyes nano-carriers and their clinical applications in oncology; Image-guided assessment of nano drug delivery systems; Integration of nanotechnology with robotic urological surgery; Conventional and alternative fluorescent and bioluminescent assays for determining cell-to-cell communications in live cells and animals; 3D organ printing for developing new biological tissues and organs; Immobilization strategies for biologically active proteins and large complexes; Recent developments in biopolymer nano particles based bioimaging techniques; Improved polymers for bioimaging and targeting applications. The present volume is comprised of 17 chapters contributed by 54 academicians and active researchers from 18 countries, namely Brazil, China, Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam presenting an overview of the research being carried out in different parts of the world on bioimaging.
