These are times of great opportunity and challenge for continuingeducation (CE) programs in colleges and universities. Whilelifelong learning remains central to CE's mission, means ofpromoting and delivering adult education programs through distanceand online learning are undergoing tremendoustechnological transformation. Within institutions, CE unitsare increasingly collaborating with academic departments. Inaddition, demographic shifts have resulted in new audiences andtypes of programs offered, both credit and noncredit. School arepressured to increase their participation in economic development. All these changes carry administrative considerations.
